The spatially resolved view of star formation in galaxy clusters

چکیده
Integral field spectroscopic studies of galaxies in dense environments, such as clusters and groups galaxies, have provided new insights for understanding how star formation proceeds, quenches. I present the spatially resolved view activity its link with multiphase gas cluster based on MUSE multi-wavelength data GASP survey. discuss among different scales (i.e. between global rate-stellar mass relation), signatures quenching histories jellyfish (progenitors) post-starburst (descendants) clusters. Finally, star-forming clumps both galaxy disks tails stripped gas.

Spatially Resolved Galaxy Star Formation and its Environmental Dependence I
We use the photometric information contained in individual pixels of 44,964 (0.019 < z < 0.125 and −23.5 < Mr < −20.5) galaxies in the Fourth Data Release (DR4) of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to investigate the effects of environment on galaxy star formation (SF). We use the pixel-z technique, which combines stellar population synthesis models with photometric redshift template fitting on the ...
متن کاملStar formation efficiency in galaxy clusters
Context. The luminous material in clusters of galaxies exists in two forms: the visible galaxies and the X-ray emitting intra-cluster medium. The hot intra-cluster gas is the major observed baryonic component of clusters, about six times more massive than the stellar component. The mass contained within visible galaxies is approximately 3% of the dynamical mass. Aims. Our aim was to analyze bot...
متن کاملSpatially Resolved Galaxy Star Formation and its Environmental Dependence II. Effect of the Morphology-Density Relation
In this second of a series of papers on spatially resolved star formation, we investigate the impact of the density-morphology relation of galaxies on the spatial variation of star formation (SF) and its dependence on environment. We find that while a density-morphology relation is present for the sample, it cannot solely explain the observed suppression of SF in galaxies in high-density enviro...
متن کاملThe Origin of Star Formation Gradients in Rich Galaxy Clusters
We examine the origin of clustercentric gradients in the star formation rates and colors of rich cluster galaxies within the context of a simple model where clusters are built through the ongoing accretion of field galaxies. The model assumes that after galaxies enter the cluster their star formation rates decline on a timescale of a few Gyrs, the typical gas consumption timescale of disk galax...
متن کاملSpatially resolved star formation histories of nearby galaxies: evidence for episodic star formation in discs
Using long-slit spectroscopy from Moran et al. (2012) we constrain the radial dependence of the recent star formation histories of nearby galaxies with stellar masses greater than 1010M⊙. By fitting stellar population models to the combination of SSFR, D4000 and HγA, we show that the star formation histories of many disk galaxies cannot be accurately represented if their star formation rates de...
